Some women experiencing domestic abuse/coercive control may decide or need to think about legal orders for their safety. At times women may be advised by Gardaí or other services to apply for orders.

We can provide you with a list of solicitors working in the family courts in Limerick city and county.
Some women may qualify for legal aid. We can assist you in applying for this. You can fill in a form or you can apply online. For further information on legal aid, click on the following link:

The Family Law Court is a private sitting. The only people in the court are you, your solicitor, the respondent (the person who you have applied to get the order against) and their solicitor. You can request your support worker to be present also if you feel this would be helpful.
This can depend on if a court hearing is adjourned or appealed. For some women they may only need to go to court once or twice.
